Review of Items from MAC’s Spring Playland Collection

Review of Items from MAC’s Spring Playland Collection

Playland CollectionWell, the Playland Collection by MAC launched recently, and I *may* have gotten a lot of things for my kit, and for myself. I will tell you the lip colors I got, and what I think of them, and show you some of them, so far. In another post I will show you the SUPER amazing Chromagraphic pencils, which I have had from the pro collection for a while, but now they are in the Playland Collection for all to see and enjoy.  They are awesome, but I will post about those very soon.

Playland Collection – Lips

Lipstick Colors

Playland – Yellow Gold (Frost) – I bought this one, love it. Mostly good to mix with other colors to make a great accent or highlight in the center of the lips, but also an interesting shade on its own. Shown in the picture below with Toying Around in the center of the mouth as a highlight.

Sweet Experience – Bright Pink (Amplified) – I bought this one, also love it. Very pretty and different shade of pink. Goes on very different than any other shade of pink MAC already has, which is difficult to believe, but it is true. I haven’t worn it yet, but I will post a picture when I do.

Happy-Go-Lucky – Hot Pink (Amplified)

Toying AroundToying Around – Hot Coral Pink (Amplified) – I bought this one. It is one of my favorites from the collection by far. It is a very orange pink, or dark coral. Got a lot of compliments when I wore it. Definitely draws attention because it is very bright. In the photo below I am wearing it with the yellow/gold Playland in the center as an accent. It is shown with Redd lipliner, by MAC.

Head in the Clouds – Red with Pearl (Frost) – I bought this one, also love it. Very different shade of shimmery orange red. I haven’t worn it yet, but I will post a picture when I do.

Red Balloon – Hot Fuchsia (Amplified)

Lipglass Colors (Cream Finish)

Bright Side – Creamy Yellow
Lots of Laughs – Creamy Peach
Carousel – Creamy Pink
Live it Up – Creamy Orange
Pure Silliness – Creamy Lilac

I did not get any of the Lipglass colors this time. Often times I steer more toward the Dazzleglass, Plushglass, Prolongwear Lipglass, and Cremesheen Glass. Oh, also the new Mineralize Glass that I will also review soon!

Casual Colour

These are all-in-one color pots that are a creamy blendable formula that can be used for cheek or lip color. So far, I have used the Hi Jinks! on my cheeks and the For Your Amusement on my lips. Formula-wise it has worked great for both. Color-wise I think I prefer using them that way, but I will still have to experiment to see for sure. I did not buy Young at Heart yet.

For Your Amusement PotFor Your AmusementFor Your Amusement – Bright pastel pink – I bought this and love it as lip color. It does dry a little matte and so it stays on very well, and is a lot more pigmented than I anticipated. Because the Hi Jinks! was not too pigmented for the cheeks, I assumed the same would be true on the lips, however, it really showed up nicely, even being a light pastel pink.  Here are some pictures of the For Your Amusement on the lips, it is shown with Soar lipliner also by MAC.

Young at Heart – Bright pink

Hi Jinks! – Bright coral – I bought this one and have used it as blush, for adding a little color to the cheek. I have not photographed it yet, but it is not too sticky, blends easily, and stays on well. I really like these multi-use formulas.

That’s it for the Playland Collection for now.  I will post the Chromagraphic Pencil information coming soon!!

“We’re Back” by MAC

“We’re Back” by MAC

FlamingoMAC announced recently that they would be bringing back select lipstick and lipglass colors from some of their most popular limited collections, to make them permanent! I love it when that happens.  I love getting to vote on those colors too sometimes. In total there are about 15 lipstick colors and 11 lipglass colors.  One of the lipstick colors they brought back is Flamingo. I never tried flamingo when it was limited, so I tried it in the store and took it home.  It is definitely a new favorite to add to the lineup.  I wore it with a coral shirt and a new coral BaubleBar necklace.  The Flamingo was the perfect bright coral. Not too bright, not too dull, just enough pigment and shine.  It is one of the lustre formula lipsticks from MAC so it is a good balance of hydrating and enough pigment to stay on and show up. In the photo it is In Anticipation prolongwear lipliner, with the Flamingo lipstick, and a small touch of Saint Germain lipglass, which is one of the lipglass colors they are making permanent too.

Excited to try some of the other limited items that are now permanent from this latest “We’re Back” collection.  I’ll let you all know how they look!

Here is a list of the lipsticks that were brought back:

  • Sweet & Sour
  • Flamingo
  • Tangerine Dream
  • Razzledazzler
  • Lip Blossom
  • Giddy
  • Kinda Sexy
  • Patisserie
  • Shy Shine
  • Sophisto
  • Cockney
  • Milan Mode
  • Pink Pigeon
  • Lady Danger
  • Sushi Kiss
Review of New MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencils

Review of New MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencils

PatentPolish Lip PencilsHere they are!! I accidentally went to the MAC store a full week before they were actually launched trying to get these guys! I got 6 different colors. They come in 12 shades total, you can see them all here. I bought the coral color Go For Girlie, the brighter pink Fearless, the medium pinks Spontaneous and Kittenish, the lavender/pink Patentpink, and the nude Innocent.

Lipgloss – Lipstick – All in One

My list of the things that I LOVE about them:

1. They are large gloss/lipstick pencils, just like they appear.

2. They twist up, so they do not require sharpening, which is a huge bonus for me, because I do not carry a sharpener around, unless I am going out on a makeup job, since they are sharp and messy.

3. They stay on pretty well.

4. They have great pigment, so that they are no too glossy.

What I was not expecting (but not necessarily negatives):

1. They are not *quite* as glossy as I was expecting. BUT, I think this actually is better, upon further reflection, because they stay on better than I thought they would as a result. I REALLY like that part.

2. They are more pigmented than I thought, again because I thought they would be more glossy, and again, I think I prefer this.  I thought I would have to wear a lipstick underneath and now I do not.

3. Like I stated above they twist up!! I think this is AWESOME, my ONLY teensy complaint with this is that they aren’t every sharp, but it’s a small price to pay for not ever having to sharpen them!

Here are some pictures of some of the colors that I have been obsessing over in the last couple weeks. Right now I cannot stop alternating days between Patentpink (the lavender/pink) and Innocent (the nude).

Here is the Patentpink Patentpolish with the MAC prolongwear lipliner Absolutely It mixed with a little Plum lipliner:

About Me

Hello everyone. I am a makeup artist in San Diego. I also have a long work history in the corporate world. I have my degree in psychology and very much enjoy working with underserved populations in my community.

Makeup

I LOVE makeup. I have had a love affair with makeup and artistry going on for 20 years now, sadly, not admitting any ages, but it’s the truth. With this blog I hope to share some of my work, my makeup tips, tell you which products I have found and adore (believe me, unfortunately, or maybe fortunately for you, there are a lot of them…), and show some of the crazy, strange, fun, and everyday color combinations I put together.

My makeup work is primarily with photographers for print photography and with local brides. I very much enjoy helping someone’s vision of their subject or of themselves come to life through makeup artistry. I think of makeup as a way to show off individuality and creativity. I do not think of it as a mask to cover someone up, but a creative palette to display what each individual chooses to display!

This is Just the Beginning!

This is a place where I will do like I do with makeup, Let’s Make It Up! If you have suggestions or tips for me, I am happy to hear them. I look forward to interacting with you all out there soon!
